The new Xbox 360 S that was released last month following its debut at E3 didn’t end up outselling the old models of the 360 in June, according to the NPD Group. Michael Pachter revealed the news in a note to investors, reports GamesIndustry.biz.

The new 360 model accounted for 40% of 360 system sales during June in the United States. 35% of sales were made up by the Xbox 360 Arcade which had its price dropped last month to $149. Pachter notes that Walmart offered a $50 gift card with the purchase of an Arcade, making it a pretty enticing purchase. The remaining 25% of sales were made by up by the Xbox 360 Premium and Elite systems.

“It is clear that the sales spike for the 360 was largely temporary, as clearance items accounted for around 60 percent of total sales, and it is not clear that software attached heavily to these purchase,” Pachter wrote in the note.
